Why is the steel so thin? Is this bracket strong enough?

Although the Fetzer Adjustable Bracket is only 3/16” thick, it can provide far superior support than com petitive options. The bracket’s patented adjustability creates upward force on the countertop for increased  strength and reliability. This allows us to make the Fetzer Adjustable Bracket from thinner steel for the low est-profile countertop support available.
